I just saw someone with a tattoo of the stupidest inspirational slogan of all time. I’ve been complaining for years about this nonsense showing up on posters in guidance counselor offices all over America, but now people are actually engraving it on their bodies: “Shoot for the moon! Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars”.

Sorry. No. If you shoot for the moon and miss, God help you. You will NOT be “among the stars”, you will be 90 million miles away from the nearest star, the Sun, and trillions of miles from the second closest, Proxima Centauri. Either way, you’re not even close. And now you’ll be doomed to float aimlessly in the black, dead, vacuous abyss until your oxygen is depleted and you die slowly, alone, out in the unforgiving nothingness of space.

So if you shoot for the moon you damn well better hit it. THAT’S a positive message for kids. “Achieve your goals or die alone.” Someone put that on a bumper sticker.
